1. Installing and Updating Joomla

No more uploading Joomla files to your hosting account or manually adjusting configuration files and adding databases. The Joomla Utilities Installation feature will do it all for you.

Joomla Utilities automatically uploads the latest stable version of Joomla to your hosting account, extracts the files, writes your configuration file and creates your database and user for you. All you have to do is fill out the necessary information and click "install Joomla" at the end of the step.

In addition to installing Joomla you can also now use our one-click Joomla upgrade feature. Joomla utilities will check your Joomla version against the latest stable version available and then update your core files for you. Simply choose "Update Joomla Core" and then confirm your choice in the following step.

2. Joomla Security Tweaks and File/Folder Permissions

The option to Tighten Security with Joomla Utilities will apply a series of server-level safety locks using .htaccess files. For example, web access to tmp and logs will be completely blocked, access to all PHP files will be blocked, except for the index.php and the index2.php files on your site's root and the administrator directory. This is a good security measure, as all Joomla components are supposed to use these files as their entry point.

If your file and folder permissions are not properly set, it can be catastrophic for your Joomla website, you want to make sure they are properly set at all times. Now you can easily fix file and folder permissions with Joomla Utilities. When you use this feature, the tool will optimize permissions across your site's directories. Since our servers here at Rochen use suPHP, all directories will be set to 0755 and all files will be set to 0644. These permission settings increase the security of your site while allowing Joomla and it's components to work properly.

3. Super Administrator Features

Until now, the only method of resetting a forgotten or misplaced Super Administrator password was to find the correct line in your site's database and manually change it. Not an impossible task, but certainly not the most convenient. With Joomla Utilities you can now reset your Joomla Super Administrator Password in just one click. Simply choose a new password and click on the "reset password" button. Yes, it's that easy!

You can now also add an extra layer of protection to your Joomla administrator panel, found at yoursite.com/administrator. This feature will add an htaccess file which makes yoursite.com/administrator only accessible to those who have a username and password that you've chosen. This makes it harder for potential hackers to entr you site.

4. Migrate Joomla to Rochen from another host

One of the most common questions from people who come to us from other hosting providers is "how do I migrate my Joomla site?". Previously you'd of had to take a full back up of your site from your current host, upload it to your Rochen account and then adjust your configuration file and manually import your database. Another of those things that's not impossible, but not the most convenient.

With Joomla Utilities you can now migrate your Joomla website from another host and have it set up and functioning on your Rochen hosting plan in a few easy steps. All you need is your ftp details from your current host, an active Rochen hosting account, and about 1 minute of your time. Simply enter the requested details in the Migration tool and then click on "migrate Joomla". During the migration process you'll have the option to update Joomla to the latest version as well as apply additional security tweaks which will help to protect your site.

5. Create a staging site using the Clone tool

Designers and developers of Joomla websites know that sometimes it’s necessary to be able to test out a new extension or template, or do some custom development and/or trouble shooting, without causing interruption or possible error to a live installation. It can be tedious to copy a site over to new directory manually, as you have to edit your configuration files all over again, import a copy of your database, and possibly adjust various links on your staging site.

With the clone tool you no longer have to worry about using your valuable time to do all of that. We’ve created this new feature so that all you need to do is go in to your Joomla Utilities option in cPanel’s CMS Utilities and just select the installation that you wish to clone, and then enter the directory or sub domain where you want to clone it to. It takes your entire installation including all data, extensions and template files, as well as the database, and duplicates it all in to your chosen directory, leaving your live site untouched and open for business. So easy!

6. Joomla Utilities WHM Plugin for Resellers

The Joomla Utilities WHM plugin gives Rochen Resellers a convenient way to manage Joomla installations and save a lot of time over the conventional manual methods.

It enables resellers and MVS customers to manage updates, security tweaks and file permissions fixes across multiple Joomla installations under different cPanel accounts. Once the utility scans your account and displays your Joomla Installations, you can opt whether to apply changes to all of them, or you can select to apply them individually.
